Recreate and Animate Tweets Inside After Effects
The Tweet UI Template is an After Effects template that enables you to perfectly recreate Twitter's UI within After Effects and animate any Tweet.
Step 1 - Edit Profile Picture
Open the PROFILE PIC comp. Import your image and drag it to the composition. Scale the image to fit the comp. Back in the main TWEET comp, the image will automatically include a circular mask.
Step 2 - Edit Text Layers
In the main TWEET comp you can edit the following text layers:
- NAME
- HANDLE
- TWEET*
- METADATA
*If a tweet takes up multiple rows of text, set the Tweet Height to the number of rows (CONTROL > Controls > Tweet Height).
If you want to include blue #hashtags, @mentions, or links, toggle on the Customize Text Field checkbox (CONTROL > Controls > Customize Text Field). With this toggled on, the colors of the TWEET text layer can freely be edited. Note that while using Dark Mode, you will need to manually update the color of the entire TWEET text layer.
Step 3 - Add Media (Optional)
Open the MEDIA comp. Import your image or video and drag it to the composition. Scale the layer to fit the width of the comp, then position it to align with the top of the comp. Blank space beneath is acceptable.
Back in the TWEET comp, toggle on the Include Media checkbox (CONTROL > Controls > Include Media).
Next, on the MEDIA layer, adjust the Media Height slider to set the desired height of your media.
Step 4 - Edit Tweet Stats
Tweet stats are controlled via sliders, making it easier to keyframe and animate while maintaining Twitter's formatting (i.e. "20.4K Likes").
On the CONTROL layer, under the Controls effect, set the stats for:
of Retweets
of Quote Tweets
of Likes
Step 5 - Edit Appearance
On the CONTROL layer, under the Controls effect, you can make several adjustments:
Dark mode -- Makes the background a dark color, and makes the text light.
Verified -- Adds a verified badge next to the NAME text. The position adjusts automatically based on the NAME text length. The appearance adjusts automatically if Dark mode is on.
NFT -- Changes the circular mask on PROFILE PIC to a hexagon mask.
Auto-center -- Vertically centers the Tweet inside the comp, automatically adjusting based on Tweet height and visibility of stats and interaction buttons.
Hide stats if 0 -- If # of Retweets, Quote Tweets, and Likes are all 0, this hides the row where they would be visible and shifts the interaction buttons up.
Retweet -- Changes the Retweet button to green (to show that it has been pressed).
Like -- Changes the Like button to red (to show that it has been pressed).
Hide buttons -- Hides interaction buttons (Comment, Retweet, Like, Share).
Step 6 - Using Animation Comps (Optional)
The pre-made animation comps add a rounded corner background and drop shadow to the tweet with a transition in and out. The timing can be adjusted for each by changing the Animation slider keyframes on the CONTROL layer within each animation.
When using the animation comps, it's recommended to turn on Auto-center in the Tweet comp.
You can also resize any of the comps and scale up the CONTROL layer to make the Tweet appear any size you want.
