Add a blinking cursor to any text layer with Blinky

Note: Blinky is now part of Type – a powerful toolset for working with text layers in After Effects.

Blinky is an After Effects script that allows you to add a blinking cursor to any text layer in After Effects with one click.

How it Works

Step 1 - Open Blinky Panel

Open the Blinky UI panel (Window > Blinky).

Step 2 - Add Blinky

Select a text layer and click the Add Blinky button.

You should now have a new layer called [text-name]_cursor. If not, undo and try again (this is a known bug).

Step 3 - Customize Cursor

With the cursor layer selected, you can make the following adjustments to the cursor appearance.

Color

Changes the color of the cursor.

Rounded cap

When turned on, it round the ends of the cursor.

Thickness

Sets the width of the cursor in pixels.

Height

Sets the height of the cursor in relation to the font size of the text.

Blink duration

Sets the length of the blinking animation in frames.
